AURORA | A man exposed to lye forced Aurora hazardous materials crews to decontaminate an urgent care facility and several of its employees Friday.
Aurora fire spokeswoman Capt. Wendy Lippman said she wasn’t sure how the man was exposed to lye, a harsh chemical also known as sodium hydroxide, but investigators don’t believe there was anything criminal about the incident.
The man walked into the Concetra Urgent Care Facility at 3350 Peoria St. around 10 a.m. for treatment of possible exposure to lye, according to an Aurora fire news release.
The healthcare workers who treated the man had to be decontaminated as well, Aurora fire said.
A spokeswoman for University of Colorado Hospital said five people were taken to UCH after the incident and all were treated and released.
