DENVER | Colorado Democratic Sen. Marc Udall says he’s encouraged by the recommendations of a presidential advisory panel on curtailing domestic surveillance.
Udall said Wednesday President Barack Obama should adopt the recommendations, which include having phone companies keep Americans’ phone records, not the National Security Administration. They would also require multiple court orders instead of just one before the information could be searched.
The panel released its report Wednesday.
Udall, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, says public trust has been undermined by what he called overly intrusive domestic surveillance.
Udall says momentum is growing for changes in surveillance, citing a federal judge’s ruling Monday. The judge said the NSA’s bulk collection of Americans’ phone records likely violates the Constitution.
The Supreme Court will likely have the last word.
Senator Mark Udall is scrambling to make a good image to try and get re-elected this November. I believe it will be too-little-too-late for him. It is obvious that he has been in lock-step with Obama and representing the Democratic party, not the people of Colorado!
