DENVER | Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper says a special session over civil unions and other bills killed after filibuster from Colorado House Republicans will address a fundamental question of fairness and civil rights.
Hickenlooper issued the statement to lawmakers before the session Monday. The Legislature adjourned less than a week ago after the tense standoff.
Republicans hold a 33-32 voting advantage but there was enough support for civil unions to pass. Democrats tried to force Republicans who control the calendar to bring the bill up for debate on Tuesday. Republicans halted work, killing the bill and several others that needed a vote before a key deadline.
Other bills to be considered include a water projects bill, and a standard for what’s considered too stoned to drive.
