CENTENNIAL | Lawyers in the Colorado theater shooting case are back in court for a closed hearing on whether defendant James Holmes should undergo another sanity evaluation.
District attorney George Brauchler says Cleveland psychiatrist Phillip Resnick, a prosecution witness, testified Monday.
Brauchler declined to elaborate.
Holmes pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges of killing 12 people and injuring 70 at a Denver-area movie theater in 2012. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Holmes underwent a court-ordered sanity evaluation at the state hospital last summer. The conclusions haven’t been made public, but prosecutors claim the doctor who conducted the evaluation was biased. They’re asking for another evaluation by their own experts.
The judge barred victims, the public and the media from the hearing, saying the testimony could influence potential jurors.
