LAKEWOOD, Colo. | Lakewood police have identified the victim who was struck and killed by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash.
The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1lNP3R2 ) that 45-year-old Ernestine Maynes was hit while crossing a street Thursday. The driver, 53-year-old Jonathan Cordova, remains jailed on suspicion of vehicular homicide, hit-and-run and felony drunken driving.
According to an arrest affidavit, Cordova told police he knew he had hit something but didn’t know what. He later said “she stepped in front of me.”
Police say Cordova told them he had been drinking that night.
It is unclear whether Cordova has hired an attorney. He is expected to appear in court Friday to be formally charged.
