AURORA | More than 400 donors to the Special Olympics of Colorado Polar Plunge performed the masochistic act of voluntarily throwing themselves into the Aurora Reservoir — in frigid February.

The approximately 450 participants, including a day of registrants, raised more than $82,000, with the final tally expected to exceed $85,000. Including participants, Special Olympics staff estimated the total attendance to be 750 people.
