AURORA | Police continued their investigation Monday into what caused a Sunday afternoon crash that left a man and an infant dead.
The crash happened around 5 p.m. Sunday at Interstate 225 and East 17th Avenue. Police said an SUV with a man, woman and infant was on the I-225 exit ramp when a pickup headed east on 17th slammed into the SUV.
The driver of the SUV, as well as an infant in the rear seat, were both killed in the crash and the woman, who was sitting in the rear passenger seat next to the baby, was injured.
The two juveniles in the pickup were not hurt, police said.
Lt. Jeff Turner, who leads the department’s traffic section, said the two people in the pickup said the truck had the green light when it passed through the intersection. If that’s the case, then the at-fault driver is likely the driver of the SUV, he said, but investigators are trying to determine who had the light.
The names of the people involved haven’t been released, but Turner said investigators believe the man and woman in the SUV were the infant’s grandparents.
