AURORA | One person died and another was injured during a two-car crash Sunday morning on Interstate 225 at East Iliff Avenue.

The car-crash was reported at about 5 a.m. prompting police to close the highway for about 5 hours during an investigation.

“The first vehicle carried two occupants,” police said in a social media post. “One individual died on scene. The second individual was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.”

Three people were inside the other car involved in the crash.

They “were checked out on scene and were not transported to the hospital,” police said. “The exact cause of the crash is under investigation. Speed is believed to be a factor.”

Northbound lanes were closed at Iliff to East Mississippi Avenue from about 5 a.m. until about 10 a.m.
