AURORA | Twenty residents of a central-Aurora triplex were forced from their homes Monday night after a “heavy fire” made the structure uninhabitable,” according to Aurora Fire Rescue officials.

Rescuers were called to a house fire at about 10:30 p.m. on the 700 block of Fraser Street after reports of a fire.

Firefighters said the two-story triplex was engulfed in flames.

One resident sustained non-life-threatening injuries, officials said, but no other resident or firefighter injuries were reported.

“The blaze resulted in the displacement of fourteen adults and six children due to extensive fire damage,” Fire and Rescue spokesperson Shannon Hardi said in a statement. “The Red Cross is providing support to affected families.”

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Firefighter officials offer these safety tips for all residents:

• Prioritize fire safety by creating a home escape plan that includes identifying multiple exit routes from each room.

• Everyone in the household should know how to contact emergency services by dialing 911

• Regular fire drills should be practiced.
