AURORA | It took an Arapahoe County jury just three hours on Friday to convict a 36-year-old man of attempting to murder an Aurora auto shop worker two years ago, according to the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Jurors found Michael Christopher Taylor guilty of all 16 charges filed against him at approximately 3 p.m. on Aug. 23, according to Vikki Migoya, spokeswoman for the local DA’s office.

Taylor’s week-long trial was the second time local prosecutors had attempted to convince community members of his guilt. A mistrial was determined in the same case due to a hung jury earlier in the year.

Taylor shot 41-year-old Chase McMinn, the co-owner of Shaus Motorsports in Aurora, once in the face from about 2 feet away on Sept. 5, 2017, according to court records.

McMinn was treated for his injuries at University of Colorado Hospital and survived the shooting.

Taylor reportedly became irate after Shaus employees refused to work on his car because of his repeated aggressive behavior at the business, according to court documents.

Taylor has a lengthy criminal record in Aurora and Denver dating back to 2001, according to CBI records. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison in 2006 for robbery charges from 2002.

Because Taylor is a habitual offender, prosecutors will powwow before scheduling a sentencing hearing, Migoya said.

Taylor is due to appear in court for a status hearing on Sept. 13.
