ARAPAHOE COUNTY | The mother of a 7-year-old girl who drowned Thursday, Aug. 11, at an apartment pool just beyond Aurora’s western border has been arrested.
Eve Gbeugre, 27, was arrested on suspicion of child abuse resulting in death after her 7-year-old daughter drowned at the Country Club Villas apartment complex, 8828 E. Florida Ave.
Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the complex at 6:06 p.m. Thursday after someone reported a possible drowning. The girl had been pulled from the pool by the time sheriff’s deputies arrived, at which point they administered CPR until rescue personnel arrived. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
It was not immediately clear how long she was in the water before someone noticed her and called 911. Investigators say the girl was left alone in the complex for an undisclosed amount of time and was able to gain access to the pool area with no adult supervision.
