AURORA | A 17-year-old girl died Friday from injuries she sustained during a shooting the week prior, police said.

Coroner officials on April 30 identified the girl as Skylar Staats.

Police were called to the scene of the shooting at about 1 a.m. April 20 near the 1000 block of South Blackhawk Street in Aurora.

Police were unclear about whether the Staats was shot in a car, outdoors or in a building because an unidentified person took the girl to a nearby urgent care center.

From there, she was transported to a nearby emergency room.

“No arrests have been made at this time,” police said in a statement.

Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.

    1. This 17 year old was shot at 1:00 A.M. on a school night. The fault lies with the victims’s parents since they were not making sure she was sleeping prior to a school day. Oh, and of course, the person who pulled the trigger is THE true villain.

      1. I must apologize to the parents for the previous comment. It was not a school night and I erred in saying that it was. I am very sorry for your loss.

  1. Would Skylar have survived had 9-1-1 been called?
Sure makesense to take a gunshot victim to an Urgent Care Facility.

Besto have Aurora FirEMS respond to the girl and start life-saving care on scene. Then continued treatment en route to a trauma hospital.

  2. Strong Children. You should look at the calendar and watch your own bobber. It was not a night before school. Also, way to be empathetic to the victim and her family. A life was lost REGARDLESS of who you wanted to blame. Sleep on that..

  3. The person posting as Strong Children should fact check before they write no nonsense. Way to be empathetic and respectful to the friends and family of the victim. A 17 year old has died. Period. She is the VICTIM! The injury was received the week prior. Rather than focusing on where she should have been maybe you could work on comprehension and that a young girl is no longer with us.

  4. @Strong Children, do you have children? How dare you judge a parent or anyone for that matter. You don’t know anyone’s situation. Raising kids is hard enough and to have the judgement of POS people like you, to say something so heartless and cold knowing that her family can see is disgusting! honestly you are no different than the person that pulled the trigger killing this beautiful girl. You should be ashamed!! I don’t believe in violence but you deserve a good ass beating for that one!!
