AURORA | A one-year-old baby died early Monday morning after a fire in an Aurora apartment that officials say started with two children playing with fire.
Four other people, two adults and two children, escaped the blaze with only minor injuries, said Aurora fire Capt. Al Robnett.
Firefighters responded to the home at 71 Newark St. around 12:40 a.m. Monday, Robnett said.
When the crews arrived, heavy smoke was pouring from a second-floor window of the four-unit townhome complex.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to just the one room, Robnett said, but when they reached the room the one-year-old had perished.
The fire started when two children ages six and 10 were playing with fire in the room, Robnett said.
