AURORA | The wife of Aurora fire chief Mike Garcia is facing a felony hit-and-run charge after police say she slammed an SUV into the back of a Hyundai on Wednesday night and fled the Aurora scene, leaving two children in the Hyundai hurt.
Adriene Garcia is facing charges of careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, at least one of which is a felony, police said.
According to Aurora police, the crash happened around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday on East Yale Avenue near South Peoria Street,. Police said a blue Hyundai with a male driver and two children inside was waiting at the stop light when a Nissan Pathfinder slammed into the back of the car.
The driver of the Nissan drove away from the scene and police later contacted her several miles away near East Belleview Avenue and South Chambers Road.
Police said the two children in the Hyundai were not wearing their seatbelts and both were injured. One child was had non-life threatening injuries that requires hospitalization, police said.
The driver of the Hyundai could also face charges because the children were not wearing seat belts, police said.
Police said they do not believe intoxication or excessive speed were factors in the crash.
A spokeswoman for the Arapahoe County district attorney’s office said prosecutors have not yet received the case from Aurora police and haven’t yet made a decision about what charges Adriene Garcia could face.
She will get off because she is the Chief’s wife. the DA or a friendly judge will let her off.
