AURORA | Northbound Interstate 225 was shut down at Interstate 70 for about two hours Tuesday after a fatal rollover crash.
Aurora police Lt. Jeff Turner, who oversees the department’s traffic section, said a man in a Chrylser 300 sedan was headed north on I-225 around 1:45 p.m. when he lost control and slammed into a guardrail at the start of the flyover to I-70.
The car rolled several times and the man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected, Turner said. The man was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Investigators aren’t sure why the man drifted into the guard rail, Turner said. witnesses told police the vehicle wasn’t speeding and investigators don’t have any indication that alcohol was involved.
The flyover was completely closed at the start of the investigation and partially closed until almost 4 p.m.
Turner said the flyover completely reopened around 4 p.m.
