AURORA | A Volkswagen exiting Interstate 225 at East Mississippi Avenue on Sunday struck another car, rolled across the busy street and hit a third car, killing the driver of the Volkswagen and injuring two others. Police say the car may be connected to an earlier hit-and-run crash near East Iliff Avenue and I-225.
The driver in the volkswagen exited northbound I-225 at about 9 a.m. March 31. There, the driver attempted to turn east but struck a eastbound Toyota on Mississippi. After hitting that car, the Volkswagen rolled across the median and into westbound lanes of Mississippi and struck a Chevrolet traveling west.
The driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead on scene. He was not identified. Two people in the Toyota were transported to a local hospital with injuries and are expected to survive. Their conditions were not reported by police. The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured.
Police said that before the crash on I-225 and Mississippi, callers reported a reckless driver near South Parker Road and I-225, and a hit-and-run crash was reported near I-225 and Iliff. Police are investigating any connections with the crashes.
Police say the driver of the Volkswagen may have been speeding. It’s unclear if drugs or alcohol were involved.
