AURORA | A man accused of driving his speeding Jeep into the rear end of a car southbound on I-225 last week has died from injuries sustained during the crash, police said Wednesday.
Officers were called to the interstate, just south of East Alameda Avenue, at about 2 a.m. Sept. 12 after reports of a rollover crash.
“Our initial investigation showed a Chevy Cobalt was traveling southbound in the number one lane when it was rear-ended at a high rate of speed by a Jeep Liberty,” Aurora police spokesperson Katie Fisher said in a statement “The Jeep then rolled and the (driver) was ejected. He was transported to an area hospital but unfortunately eventually succumbed to his injuries.”
The unidentified man was the only person inside the Jeep, police said.
People inside the other car were also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police reported.
“Speed and alcohol appear to be factors, however a final determination will be made once the investigation is complete,” Fisher said.
The identity of the man will be later released by coroner officials.
