AURORA | Aurora police say a motorist has been cited for careless driving in connection with a July 29 crash that killed a 72-year-old woman using a walker.
Police said Thursday that Yosmar Chavez Rodriguez, 28, was issued a summons for careless driving resulting in death.
Officers were called to South Havana Street and East Jewell Avenue July 29 after a report of an auto-pedestrian collision.
Investigators said the unidentified woman was pushing a walker across Jewell when she fell while trying to cross through a hole in the pavement in front of a GMC pickup stopped at the red light.
“The truck then turned right onto Havana and ran over her,” police said in a statement.
Investigators said the woman was not in a crosswalk at the time.
She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver stayed at the scene.
Appears she fell out of sight of the driver and he made a righturn on red.
Can’t blame him for not keeping track of her.
Was driver looking at something and, when he looked up and forward, reasonably assumed she had successfully crossed the street?
Were she crossing in a crosswalk, would she have been more in view and would she have encountered a hole and fallen?
These new pickup trucks are so tall that hardly anyone can be seen from the driver’s seat in most of them. Just be careful if you are on the ground around a truck and pretend the driver can’t see you.
