AURORA | A Denver man faces child-sex-assault charges after being accused of luring a teenager into sexual encounters at the home of the 14-year-old in Aurora.

Federal marshals arrested John Vincent Custer, 48, on Nov. 26 on a warrant issued by Aurora police, based on an investigation by the Aurora Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Unit.

John Custer, 48, of Denver

He faces two charges of child-sex assault with a pattern of abuse, and two charges of child enticement.

“Aurora detectives launched the investigation in August after receiving a tip Custer was communicating with the victim through an online messaging app,” police spokesperson Joe Moylan said in a statement. “The investigation later determined Custer engaged in sexual encounters on two occasions with the minor at the victim’s home.”

Custer was released from a Denver jail in lieu of $50,000 bond, according to jail records.

A court appearance date was not immediately available.

Moylan said APD partners with Homeland Security Investigations and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation as part of the “Colorado Cyber Guardian Task Force.” That joint project among local, state and federal agencies focuses on identifying child exploitation and child sex trafficking crimes.

Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.

  1. This is a bad article. Police cannot issue a warrant. Someone cannot be released “in lieu of” bond. In lieu if means instead. He could be released on a PR bond, or on a $50 k bond but not “in lieu of bond”.

    1. This guy should be off of the streets. What causes men almost 50 years old to prey on 14-year-old girls? For grandpas like me who cherish their granddaughter’s innocence and their growth into a young woman free from abuse, it just doesn’t make sense!
