DENVER | A police officer hit by a car during a student protest in Denver is now able to open his eyes.
The family of Officer John Adsit said in a statement that he opened his eyes Thursday for the first time since the accidental crash last week and that they hope to be able to communicate with him soon. They also say he is undergoing a “long and vital surgery” Friday and remains in critical condition.
He and three other bicycle officers were hit by a driver who suffered a medical emergency as they monitored a protest of hundreds of students from Denver’s East High School.
