AURORA | Adams County District Attorney Dave Young has successfully petitioned his way onto the Democratic primary ballot, setting up a June showdown with Caryn Datz.

Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams said in a statement Wednesday, April 20, that his office certified 1,525 of the 1,717 signatures Young turned in. Young needed just 1,000 signatures to make the primary ballot.

“I was expecting it, but I’m pleasantly surprised cause it’s never a sure thing,” Young said Wednesday.

Datz, a deputy district attorney in Boulder County, will have top billing on the primary ballot after winning more than 75 percent of the vote at the 17th Judicial District Democratic Party assembly last month.
