ARAPAHOE COUNTY | An upcoming meeting in Aurora will serve as the latest input gathering effort for Arapahoe County as planners piece together a master plan for the region’s bikers and walkers.

Arapahoe County has been working on the development of a Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan since May 2016 and has made an inventory of existing conditions, developed goals and conducted extensive public outreach in an effort to develop a draft bicycle and pedestrian network for the county, according to a statement from the county.

The final plan will result in a comprehensive system of on-street and trail facilities that safely connects neighborhoods and other destinations while encouraging walking and bicycling for travel and recreation.

The plan covers both the incorporated and unincorporated portions of the county and is being developed in coordination with local municipalities. The final plan will serve as a guide for constructing bicycle and pedestrian network improvements over coming years.

A public meeting will be held April 25 to present the comprehensive vision for on-street bicycle facilities, sidewalks and trails in Aurora and across the county. The meeting will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Aurora Room at the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E. Alameda Pkwy.

The draft network is based on public input from the project’s online public commenting tool, an online survey, a telephone town hall in June 2016, public meetings (including the last meeting, December 2016) and event outreach.

The network builds on existing plans from local municipalities to help continuity and create a comprehensive vision for the whole county.

Planners are seeking public input from cyclist and pedestrians in the region.

The project team will refine the network for incorporation into the final plan following the public meetings, and will create a phased implementation plan. After the draft plan is reviewed by the public, the final plan will be presented to the Arapahoe Board of County Commissioners for adoption.
