AURORA | A revision that would add algae-like slime to the list of trash and debris Aurora homeowners are required to clear from their sidewalks received unanimous initial approval from city council Monday night.
City staff say the algae, prevalent in newer subdivisions where sump-pumps are installed for higher water tables, is hazardous to pedestrians. Two injury claims and one lawsuit have been filed as a result of slimy sidewalks, according to city documents.
The revision requires Aurora homeowners to keep adjacent municipal sidewalks and strips of land between streets and sidewalks free of the slippery vegetation and any other condition, not including repairs, which are hazardous to pedestrians.
It also prohibits homeowners from removing the slime with anything that could pollute the city’s storm drainage system.
In other city news, for the Thanksgiving holiday, all city services will be closed Nov. 28 and Nov. 29. All golf courses will remain open, weather permitting, and limited recreation and art centers will be open. Police, fire and public safety operations will also remain open.

Now if we could only remove the slime and growths from City Council, we may actually accomplish something.
Enough, Enough, Mayor Hogan, and this council needs to go back to two council meetings per month; it appears that this group has too much time on their hands, have they forgent this charter directive.
So far council has made scofflaws of those who merely want to warm up their car, do not come to a full stop before turning right on red,(90% of red light camera tickets), hang an inappropriate sign, or want to run a couple of garage sales.
I guess there is no end to the human behavior that this council will try and control. Wouldn’t it be easier to require contractors to install french drains at the time the home is built to prevent a problem that developers and contractors have created.
Oops, I forgot you cann’t ask developers or builders to do the right thing, it might cost them some money and we all know that they would cause them all to leave Aurora and no new home would ever again be built in the city.
YEP….pretty soon they will be telling you what toilet paper to wipe your a$$ with.
