AURORA | A 71-year-old man found dead in the parking lot of an Aurora U-Haul store Saturday was beaten to death, the Arapahoe County coroner said Tuesday.

George Pappas, 71, was assaulted and died of blunt force injuries to his head, the coroner said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Aurora police said Sunday officers found the man about 6:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the U-Haul rental center at 1802 S. Havana St.

Police on Sunday arrested Corderio Lark, 21, on a first-degree murder charge connected to Pappas’ slaying.

According to court records, Lark is due in court Wednesday where he will be advised of the charges.

Lark, a Mississippi native, had never been arrested in Colorado before his arrest Sunday, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.
