AURORA | Coroner officials confirmed the identity of a 16-year-old girl fatally shot during what police say was a “home invasion” Tuesday morning at a west-central Aurora apartment.
The slain girl was identified by the Arapahoe County coroner office as Audrina Fedelina Arrington, 16.
Details about the cause of death were not released.
“This is all that can be released at this time as to not jeopardize the ongoing investigation,” coroner spokesperson Lisa Vantine said in a statement.
Officers were called to a Village East neighborhood apartment complex in the 10600 block of East Jewell Avenue at about 6:15 a.m. after reports of a home invasion and shooting, according to Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan.
“When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 16-year-old girl with an apparent gunshot wound,” Moylan said.
Aurora police Cpt. Marc Paolino told reporters later in the day that two unidentified males forced their way into the apartment.
“They were not welcomed,” Paolino said when asked by reporters whether the two men technically “invaded” the home or were let in. “They got inside, there was multiple people inside the apartment. A physical struggle ensued, and multiple shots were fired, which resulted in the shooting of the 16 year old.”
Arrington was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries, according to police.
“We’re still attempting to understand what the relationship, if any, was between the residents of the apartment and the people came there,” Paolino said.
As of Thursday, no suspect information was released.
Arrington’s family opened a Go Fund Me page for her. “She touched many lives and loved everyone unconditionally,” family members said. “We will all want to celebrate her life coming together as one for her, please use this fund to support that opportunity for us to make that happen.”
