AURORA |A man in his 30s faces first-degree attempted murder charges after sheriff’s deputies say he fired a gun at another motorist, causing a multi-car crash, and then sped the wrong way on Parker Road in the middle of morning rush hour Thursday, according to police officials.

Nobody was seriously hurt in the incident, which started around 8:20 a.m. on East Orchard Road between South Buckley Road and South Joplin Way, said Aurora County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Julie Brooks.

A woman’s car was struck by three bullets when she was caught in between the shooter and the other vehicle he fired at, Brooks said, and the woman sustained minor injuries. Investigators aren’t sure if the injuries were caused by broken glass or bullet fragments, and the woman declined treatment, Brooks said.

After firing the gun, the shooter got back in his car and sped west on Orchard before heading north in the southbound lanes of Parker Road, Brooks said. The man slammed into a Chevy Sonic before getting out and fleeing on foot. Deputies quickly arrived then and the man was arrested, Brooks said. Nobody in the Sonic was hurt.

The suspected gunman, identified Thursday night as 34-year-old Jesse Wright, of Denver, faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, menacing and a weapons charge. Booking documents don’t indicate if he has hired an attorney.

  1. There were definitely shots fired along Orchard road, just west of Buckley. My house backs up to that area of Orchard and I woke up to 6 or 7 gun shots at about 8:25ish.

  2. I was driving my son to school and he pointed his gun in my car. Really glad they caught him. I just hope the person he shot at is ok.

        1. Glad you guys are safe as well! This was at orchard and Buckley and shots were fired by the park just West of Buckley on orchard.

  3. Same here, he had something that looked like a metal baton or bat, couldn’t tell for sure, He pointed it at my car, right at my son, and took steps toward the car so I pulled around into a left turn lane and he moved on.

  4. wow, once we got past the crash we turned onto orchard where we passed 3 cars on the other side of the road. An ambulance had just arrived on the scene. Didn’t relate the 2 and thought that it did not look like there was any damage to the stopped cars.

      1. I’ve been around both Denver and Aurora for many years. Aurora is safer than Denver. Just this evening two were shot at Spyglass Hill Apartments in Denver, and last weekend someone was shot at an apartment complex near Parker and Yale in Denver. However, I’d say Aurora is getting deadlier due to its being a sanctuary city, as is Denver.

        1. Yes but, Denver has more people flowing in and out on a daily basis. LeGare isn’t the brightest bulb and certainly believes the sheep want to buy the feel good bridge he is selling,

          1. He’s a business man and an Aurora booster just trying to accentuate the positive about the City of Aurora.

          2. So this makes it safer because there are more people that commit the crimes? Not following the logic here…

        2. Another example of you being sheep unable to think for himself. No real proof in anything you say, just a feelin’.

        3. if you look much of Aurora’s crimes occur on western parts of Aurora….. meaning.. near Denver. I believe crimes occur here in Aurora because of Denver, not the other way around..
