DENVER| The U.S. Senate has taken another step toward finishing an over-budget veterans medical center in Aurora, agreeing to raise the project’s spending cap by $625 million.

The Senate passed the measure Friday. The House hasn’t voted yet.

It’s one of several hurdles the Veterans Affairs Department must clear to get the money it needs to complete the project in Aurora.

The House and Senate must approve a separate measure allowing the VA to transfer the $625 million from other accounts within the department. That provision is part of a government-wide emergency funding bill now before Congress.

Then the VA must get approval from House and Senate Appropriations committees for the specific transfers.

A scaled-back version of the hospital is expected to cost nearly $1.7 billion.

  2. I did not vote for the stimulus funds to be spent on green energy, which has been the Democrat dream since Carter years. So last 10Trillion really need more accounting, than the increase in construction costs, brought on by all the importing of cheap labor, who vote democrat, while our USA citizens go on food stamps, welfare, unemployment compensation, and all the early disable folks who went on handicapped roles early, exhausting social security, medicare, and all those other goodies so cherished by all.
    Now expecting the veterans to pay for it, or take less benefits. Anyone looking at their grocery bills, housing costs, utilities in these past years, could not expect those folks working on those buildings to not get union scale, and work under union rules. 3 or 4 standing around, supervising the one working.
    So don’t complain now. This was boon-dogle from Washington DC, politicians, and differences of opinions and policies, like everything else that now costs more.

  3. I’ll bet the additional $625 million will not be enough and the final tab will be over $2 billion, as no one is ever held accountable for graft and fraud in VA projects.
