DENVER | The Colorado Department of Education is taking the blame for an oversight in its school-violence report that left out last year’s fatal shooting at Arapahoe High School.
State education regulators tell KMGH-TV in Denver that the agency mistakenly left out the shooting, not the Littleton Public School District.
The station reported earlier this week that a loophole in school-violence reporting standards means that only incidents in which students are disciplined are r4eported. In the Arapahoe case, the suspected shooter killed himself, meaning no one was disciplined for the shootings claimed the lives of 17-year-old Claire Davis, and the gunman,18-year-old Karl Pierson
The Department called the oversight a “processing error.”
