AURORA | The city is facing more than $5 million in damage to streets from last week’s flooding, city officials said Sept. 19.
Several streets including Peoria Street and sidewalks around the Highline Canal and Utah Park are damaged, said City Manager Skip Noe. A storm drainage line is also eroded, and the cost to repair that is still unknown, he said.
The city is hoping to the costs will be covered by FEMA. Even with street damage, the city fared better than other cities in the state because of its detention ponds and storm sewers, Noe said.
“The system operated about as well as you could expect,” Noe said. “But we still had some damage.”
