AURORA | Aurora today banned the use of charcoal grills amid ongoing concern about the potential for fires.

Propane grills are still allowed at single family homes, but Aurora fire officials said charcoal grills are too risky in the dry conditions.

No word on how long the ban will last.

The ban comes a day after city officials cancelled the annual Fourth of July fireworks display amid growing concern about wildfires.

  1. How often do fires start from charcoal grills? And how does that number compare to propane grills?

  2. “Propane grills are still allowed at single family homes…”  So, does that mean propane grills are allowed at condos and apartment buildings, or not?  Complete the thought Aurora Sentinel!

  3. Seems to be a money grab. How much is the fine? I’ve read that it is up to $1,000.

It’s time to fire up the grill and celebrate Independence Day but our local officials
think they can cash in on the loss of that liberty.

My step-dad was a firefighter. Fire safety was big at our house. We were taught how to contain grease fires (keep a fire extinguisher nearby), keep the grill several feet from the house, and always keep the grounds to our home moist around the Fourth of July due to errant fireworks.

Perhaps fire officials could consider posting safety tips online as no sane person wants to burn his or her house down. It makes more sense than stealing money from the people.

The more officials fine the people for minor things, the less likely they will get their
beloved tax hike measure(s) passed this fall. We will remember this at the ballot box.

  4. This is criminally dumb, but it is Aurora which specializes in stupidity.  I wish I knew that before I bought a house in this awful city, so I guess that makes me dumber than the morons who run this place.
