AURORA | Aurora firefighters rescued a child from a burning home in southeast Aurora Friday afternoon after a garage fire spread into the house, according to Aurora firefighters.

Rescuers were called to a home near South Gartrell Road and East 470 at about 3:30 p.m. after reports of quickly spreading garage fire.

“911 callers reported a child unaccounted for and a vehicle burning inside the garage that was quickly spreading,” Aurora Fire and Rescue spokesperson Eric Hurst said in a statement. “A plume of smoke was visible for miles as firefighters responded to the scene, prompting a call for additional resources.”

The first fire engine on the scene observed flames extending into the upper level of the house, and rescuers rushed fire hoses inside, Hurst said.

“The child who was initially reported missing safely evacuated and no injuries occurred,” Hurst said “All searches of the home were clear, and it took approximately 30-minutes to bring the incident under control.”

Four adults and the child were forced to leave the home because of significant fire damage, and the American Red Cross was assisting them.

Investigators will determine the cause of the blaze.

  1. Hope thathe cause wilbe published.
Working on the car inside the garage? Fire accelerated by leakingasoline?
Was the door from garage to house, closed? That door is a one-hour rated fire door.
