AURORA | After the departure of Colorado Department of Education Commissioner Richard Crandall, today the board appointed Katy Anthes, formerly the department’s chief of staff, as interim commissioner.
“The board thanks Dr. Anthes for accepting the role of interim commissioner,” said state board Chairman Steve Durham in a press release from the department. “We know there are many challenges ahead as the department transitions to new leadership, and we believe Dr. Anthes is the right person to lead us during this important time for Colorado’s public education system.”
Crandall resigned yesterday, citing familial reasons for his departure from the job after only five months.
In addition to holding various positions at the CDE, Anthes taught at the University of Colorado Denver from 2006 to 2011, where she also received her master’s and doctorate.
