AURORA | A Cherokee Trail High School student was shot and killed outside of his Centennial home last night, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators with the local sheriff’s office said the 18-year-old Cherry Creek School District student was fatally shot at about 9:30 p.m. on May 8 in the 21500 block of East Powers Lane in Centennial.
The teen was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office may formally identify the slain teen after his family is notified in the coming days.
Arapahoe County officials have detained a 17-year-old suspect in connection to the shooting. Authorities are not searching for any other suspects and do not believe there is any further threat to the community.
The fatal shooting “is not school related,” according to the local sheriff’s office.
The killing Wednesday night marks the third fatal shooting of a teenager in the cities and towns surrounding Denver this week.
Ryan Robertson, 16, was shot and killed in southeast Aurora on Monday, and 18-year-old Kendrick Castillo was killed in the shooting at STEM School Highlands Ranch on Tuesday.
