AURORA | Students and staff at Cherokee Trail High School were briefly evacuated late Wednesday morning after a burning odor was detected in the school.
Fire crews responded to the school and said the odor came from a malfunctioning light ballast in the center of the school.
Aurora fire Lt. Tony Krenz said electricians are at the school repairing the problem and students have returned to normal classes.
Nobody was injured and Cherry Creek officials have no reason to believe that the cause of the smell was toxic, according to Tustin Amole, spokeswoman for Cherry Creek School District.
“Everybody is safe,” she said. “We have no reason to believe that it’s toxic. We’re just acting out of an abundance of caution.”
