AURORA | The caretaker of a Strasburg special-needs man is facing multiple felony charges after she was accused of physically assaulting the man.
On Jan. 20, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a special needs man threatening and assaulting family members. During the investigation, deputies obtained video evidence of the man being forced to exercise for extended periods of time with a bar of soap in his mouth as an act of punishment, according to a press statement released Thursday.

Deputies also discovered that the man, whose name was not included in the press statement, had visible facial injuries and bruises. He is currently being treated at a local hospital.
Deputies interviewed the man’s caretaker, Gerilynn “Lynn” Amaro, 71, of Strasburg and then placed her in police custody.
Amaro was arrested Feb. 7 and booked at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility in lieu of $25K bond. According to the press statement, she was released the following day on a personal recognizance bond. Arapahoe County Human Services is continuing the investigation.
Amaro is facing two felony charges, a second degree assault on an at-risk person and a third degree assault on an at-risk person.
Anyone who encounters someone being abused is advised to contact their local law enforcement agency or county human services department, according to the press statement.
