AURORA | Even after years of construction related to Interstate 225 and the light rail line in Aurora, businesses and commuters will face perhaps their biggest traffic challenge in recent months.
In early October, the intersection of East Alameda Avenue and South Sable Boulevard — a key route for accessing Aurora Municipal Center, Town Center of Aurora and the Arapahoe County CentrePoint Plaza — will be closed for six weeks.
The closure, which will allow for construction on the upcoming Aurora light rail “R” light, is expected to last about six weeks. The full closure of the intersection will see limited access for businesses from as far north as Fourth Avenue along Sable Boulevard, and most westbound traffic on Alameda will be re-routed past the CentrePoint Plaza building to the south or up to Sixth Avenue via Chambers Road to the north.
During that time, the entire intersection will be rebuilt after accommodating for the light rail infrastructure. It is expected to reopen around Thanksgiving.
Business managers and property owners in the area are invited to an informational meeting from 8 to 9 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at the Aurora Chamber of Commerce office, 14305 E. Alameda Ave., Suite 300, in the Westerra Credit Union building. Interested parties are asked to RSVP to I-225@rtd-fastracks.com by Sept. 16, as space is limited.
