AURORA | A brush fire that broke out Monday afternoon in the open space behind Cimarron Elementary School in south Aurora burned about 500 yards of dry vegetation before being extinguished by Aurora firefighters.

There were no injuries and the blaze did not threaten nor harm any structures, according to fire officials. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Smoke from the open space near South Richfield Street and East Lehigh Place was reported about 2:30 p.m.
Firefighters sent two crews to extinguish the blaze. As of 3:30 p.m. firefighters said they remained on scene to ensure containment.
