AURORA | Sheriff officials say a 29-year-old man will faces charges of attempted murder in connection with the aggravated assault of his 53-year-old mother.

Police said Robert Holtam, 29, was booked Saturday into the Arapahoe County jail and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond.

Holtam faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault in connection with a “family disturbance” at their home in the southeast Aurora region.

On Saturday, the woman had been taken to a local hospital for what sheriff officials said were “serious” injuries. The nature of the attack nor the woman’s injuries were released.

At about 11:30 a.m., police shut down Smoky Hill Road in both directions for about 30 minutes between South Biscay Circle and South Danube Street as sheriff deputies respond to “an active situation” in the area, southeast of Aurora.

“Please stay out of the area,” Arapahoe County sheriff officials said in a social media post at about 11:30 a.m.

“One male, 29, is in custody for aggravated assault and possibly other charges,” sheriff officials said in a social media post. “One female, 53, has been transported to the hospital in serious condition.”

Channel 9News reported that the woman was the mother of the suspect.
