AURORA | A 3-month old girl killed with her grandfather in a crash Sunday was in a car seat, but the seat was not installed properly, police said.

Kataley Ramerez-Cespedes died shortly after the crash Sunday evening near Interstate 225 and East 17th Avenue. Her grandfather, Jaime Humberto Ramerez-Lopez, 40, was also killed in the crash and her grandmother was injured but is expected to survive.

The crash happened around 5 p.m. Sunday when a pickup truck slammed into Ramerez-Lopez’s SUV, which was headed southbound on the I-225 off ramp.

The two juveniles in the pickup were not hurt, police said.

Lt. Jeff Turner, who leads the department’s traffic section, said the two people in the pickup said the truck had the green light when it passed through the intersection. If that’s the case, then the at-fault driver is likely the driver of the SUV, he said, but investigators are trying to determine who had the light.

Police are looking for a Spanish-speaking woman who may have witnessed the crash and could say which vehicle had a green light.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this accident to contact Detective Terry Allen at 303-739-6351.
