DENVER | Survivors of the Aurora theater shooting and relatives of victims are urging lawmakers to take steps to prevent gun violence.
They will be speaking at the Colorado Capitol on Friday. Gun control is expected to be one of the most heated topics at the state legislature in the coming months.
Democrats have signaled they may sponsor legislation to ban assault weapons and restrict access to firearms to people with mental illness. Gov. John Hickenlooper has said the time is right for lawmakers to discuss gun control.
Twelve people were killed in the July theater shooting and more than 58 others were wounded. The survivors and relatives of the victims are speaking on the day the nation holds a moment of silence to mark one week since the Connecticut school shooting.

Great idea! Let’s reserve the weapons for the government and the criminals! The theater was a “Gun Free Zone”! Either the killer couldn’t read or ‘GASP’ he ignored the misdemeanor law violation to commit dozens of Capital ‘Death Penalty’ offenses!
BTW- The evil black “Assault Weapon” jammed. Most or all of the damage was caused by weapons that would not have been illegal under a proposed “Assault Weapons” ban! People need to use common sense. I understand the victims and those that care about them are emotional and engage in the “what it?” process of dealing with loss but society as a whole should use reason and logic!
