AURORA | The city is seeking community comment about the Colfax Bus Rapid Transit Next study on the future of transit along Colfax east of I-225.
“Bus rapid transit is an efficient bus service that incorporates elements of light rail, such as enhanced stations, all-door boarding, purchasing tickets before riding and, in some cases, dedicated bus lanes,” city officials said in a statement. “It is intended to move people more quickly, safely and sustainably.”
The project team for Colfax BRT Next, a transportation improvement study, is seeking community input this month on bus features, bus stop locations and route design along Colfax Avenue between the RTD R Line’s Colfax Station at Interstate 225 and Picadilly/E-470.
“Colfax BRT Next is separate from, but complementary to, the East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit project that will run from Downtown Denver to Interstate 225 and is currently under construction,” the statement said.
To solicit comments, city officials will be holding a virtual webinar from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. OCt. 7, so the community can learn more about the study and share their preferences on bus design features, according to a statement from the city.
The webinar will provide an opportunity for community discussion and feedback, and Spanish interpretation will be available. Registration is required at TinyURL.com/BRTNextwebinar.
There will also be an in-person opportunity to attend a community open house from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at East Middle School, 1275 Fraser St.
Community members will be able to stop by at any time during the event to learn more about the study, discuss the project in depth with experts, view various design options and provide input, the statement said. Refreshments, children’s activities and Spanish interpretation will be available.
For those who cannot attend the webinar nor the open house, a community survey will be available from Oct. 8 to Nov. 7 to gather input for this phase of the study at Engage.DRCOG.org/ColfaxNext.
The Denver Regional Council of Governments is funding and managing the Colfax BRT Next study, along with the City of Aurora, Arapahoe and Adams counties, the Regional Transportation District , and the Colorado Department of Transportation.
“The study will include a locally preferred alternative for advancing BRT and a pathway for securing funding to develop and implement the project,” the statement said. “This corridor is part of DRCOG’s 2050 Regional Transportation Plan BRT Network and among five BRT corridors slated for implementation by 2030.”
The study is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Find out more at Engage.DRCOG.org/ColfaxNext.
