AURORA | Due to a combination of weather and staff shortages, Aurora school districts are shortening or canceling classes Thursday.

“Due to weather conditions, Aurora Public Schools and Pickens Technical College will be closed today, January 6. In the interest of safety, staff and students should stay home,” the administration announced Thursday morning.

The Cherry Creek School District had a delayed start of 60 minutes for elementary students and 90 minutes for middle and high school students due to weather conditions exacerbating staffing issues.

“With current staffing shortages due to COVID and the potential for bad weather and extremely cold temperatures, we are taking the precautionary measure to call a delayed start,” the district said. “Our hope is to give families more time to prepare and ensure that students are not waiting at bus stops at the coldest part of the morning.”
