AURORA | Police confiscated an ounce of crack cocaine ready for distribution, cash and a so-called 3D handgun during an arrest last week as part of a gang and narcotics investigation, according to Aurora police.
Police said the Dec. 27 arrest was the culmination of an investigation of an Aurora man with alleged gang ties and a court record of drug sales.
Police said the probe focused on Abel Gebretsadik, 28, who was wanted on a felony warrant issued in Douglas County District Court in connection with selling fentanyl, according to Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan.
Police said they discovered that Gebretsadik was going to be at a local, unspecified mall last week at a specific time.
“Officers responded to the area and developed a plan to arrest Gebretsadik, who has a history of running from police,” Moylan said. “Officers were able to take Gebretsadik into custody in the mall parking lot.”
At the same time, a second man was arrested, Majid Ahmed, 31, of Aurora, in connection with a warrant issued by an Arapahoe County court for misdemeanor theft.
“During the investigation, officers seized more than an ounce of crack cocaine divided up into multiple baggies for distribution, more than $7,000 in cash and a 3D-printed firearm,” Moylan said.
So-called 3D guns are composed of parts made from plastic created on a 3D printer, often completed with metal components and sometimes able to fire ammunition.
Aurora police said the gun they confiscated appeared able to fire .22-caliber rounds.
As of Jan. 3, Gebretsadik was being held at the Arapahoe County jail in lieu of $17,500 bond.
He faces new charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and obstructing a police officer.
Ahmed faces charges for obstructing a police officer and is being held at the Arapahoe County jail in lieu of $8,000 bond.
Police said anyone with information can call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000, police said.

Seems an awfully minor arrest, routine really, to be getting touted in the press. Why did this make the paper? What agenda is being served here?
I don’t believe there’s any agent being served there. The APD got two gang-bangers off the streets and confiscated illegal drugs and an illegal firearm. Hard to complain about that kind of reporting. If anything it’s good to continue to see APD able to get this trash behind bars, where they belong.
