AURORA | Police are investigating a shooting Tuesday morning, Dec. 22, near East Iliff Avenue and South Troy Street that left one man in critical condition.

Officers initially responded to the scene around 10:40 a.m. on a report of a car accident. When officers arrived, they found a man in a blue Volkswagen suffering a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Aurora police spokesman Sgt. Chris Amsler said the man was rushed to a hospital with life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition.

After the shooting, the man crashed into a grey car, Amsler said.

Police don’t have any details about a possible suspect or their vehicle, Amsler said, and investigators are asking anyone who saw anything to contact Detective Matt Ingui at 303-739-6067.

Police closed Iliff Avenue in both directions between South Peoria Street and East Warren Avenue to investigate the shooting. Amsler said Iliff will likely remain closed for several hours.
