AURORA | Police are looking for a man who may have posed as a police officer and pulled over a woman Friday afternoon.
According to police, the incident happened around 2:45 p.m. Friday on East Quincy Avenue near Reservoir Road.
Police said the woman told investigators a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger, pulled in behind her and turned on flashing red, white and blue lights.
The woman, believing a police officer was pulling her over, pulled into an auto parts store parking lot.
A man in the car approached her and said he was pulling her over for having a tail light out. When the woman asked for a badge or a business card, the man refused and told her she was free to leave before he drove away.
Police said the man was wearing a dark blue uniform with a badge, gun in a holster and a radio with a microphone attached to his lapel. The woman described the man as a white male in his 20s with a “baby face,” medium build, bald head and blond eyebrows.
APD uses unmarked cars, but police said if drivers are pulled over by one they should ask to see the officer’s badge and identification card. They can also call 911 to determine if they are actually being pulled over.
Police are asking anyone with information to call detectives at 303-627-3156. They can also call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at (720) 913-STOP (7867). and could be eligible for a $2,000 reward.
