AURORA | Police are looking for a man in a white van after a 14-year-old girl said he tried to kidnap her Wednesday morning near Aurora Central High School.

According to a statement from police, the incident happened around 8 a.m. near East 11th Avenue and Ursula Street when the girl was walking to school.

Police said the man pulled up beside the girl, opened the sliding door on the driver’s side of the van and tried to pull her. The girl fought the man off and reported the incident to school officials who called police.

The van is a white Chevy Astro Van with a sliding door on the driver side, a window on the back right side and the rear doors are welded shut, police said.

The man is described as a Hispanic male in his early 20s, about 5-feet, 4-inches tall with a heavy build, short cropped hair and a scar near his left eyebrow, police said. He was wearing a black, puffy, winter style jacket and navy blue or gray shorts.

Police said they will be stepping up patrols in the area and are asking parents to talk to their children about personal safety.
