AURORA | Police said an Aurora man is in custody after he fatally shot his brother Tuesday night during an argument at their central Aurora home.

Police were called to the residence in the 1800 block of South Fairplay Street at about 6:30 p.m. by someone in the home reporting the shooting.

“The 911 caller stated that one brother, a suspect in his 30s, shot his sibling, a man in his late 20s,” Aurora police spokesperson Katie Fisher said in a statement. “A preliminary investigation revealed that the pair had gotten into an argument and at some point, the younger brother armed himself with a knife while the elder brother armed himself with a gun and subsequently, the shooting occurred.”

Police said they arrested the older man without incident.

An investigation into the shooting is underway.
