AURORA | Police say a man driving an SUV ran a red light Tuesday night, striking another car and a man riding a motorcycle, who died at the scene.
Officers were called to East Mississippi Avenue and South Buckley Road at about 11:30 p.m. after reports of a car crash there.
“The investigation revealed the (SUV) was traveling northbound on South Buckley Road when it failed to stop for a red light at East Mississippi Avenue,” Aurora Police spokesperson Gabby Easterwood said in a statement. “The (SUV) then struck a motorcycle and an Acura that were both turning left onto East Mississippi Avenue.”
The unidentified man riding the motorcycle was critically injured during the crash and pronounced dead by rescuers at the scene.
The driver of the SUV and the Acura were uninjured, according to Easterwood.
“The driver of the GMC remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation,” she said. “At this time, neither speed nor alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the crash.”
Police said this was the 23rd traffic crash involving a motorcycle this year, and the ninth that resulted in a fatality.
