AURORA | A 28-year-old bicyclist was killed early Thursday as he was crossing Havana Street in west-central Aurora and was struck by an SUV suspected of speeding and the driver possibly intoxicated, police said in a statement.

The unidentified man was crossing from west to east in the 700 block of South Havana Street at about 2 a.m. when the crash occurred.

The cyclist was not using a crosswalk on Havana when he was struck by a northbound  GMC Yukon driven by an unidentified motorist.

“The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene,” Aurora police spokesperson Gabby Easterwood said in a statement. “Speed and alcohol are being investigated as contributing factors. Charges to the driver of the Yukon are pending investigation.”

  1. When I am riding my bicycle at 2 a.m. on Havana Street, I am watching for alcohol-impaired or sleepy drivers who may misseeing me,specially in the background clutter of lights and oncoming vehicle headlights.
    Was the bicyclist also alcohol-impaired?
