AURORA | As he nears the end of his second month on the job, Aurora police Chief Nick Metz on Monday announced a new leadership team for the department — which includes the department’s first female division chief.

“I feel incredibly confident that the team I have assembled will do what’s right for the women and men of the Aurora Police Department, and just as important, for the people of Aurora,” Metz said in a statement announcing the moves.

Replacing former Deputy Chief Terry Jones, who retired last month, will be Paul O’Keefe, a 20-year department veteran who previously oversaw the investigations bureau.

Metz also said there will be two new division chiefs: Jim Puscian will oversee the Compliance and Professional Standards Division, which includes the department’s training and recruitment efforts, while Vanessa Wilson will oversee the operations division, which includes patrol and other operations at the three districts. Wilson is the department’s first female division chief.

Puscian is also tasked with reviewing the department’s use-of-force polices, according to the statement.

Kevin Flynn will continue to serve as division chief over the Metro Division, formerly known as the Investigative Division. That division includes the homicide, SWAT, K-9 Unit, Gang Intervention Unit, and narcotics.

Terry Brown, Rob McGregor and Mike Dailey have been appointed commanders, Ken Murphy will remain a commander in District 3 and Ernie Ortiz has been named acting commander for District 1.

    1. Ashley, or should I say Kay, is quite the critic. All if these appointments are good to excellent choices. Div Ciief Flynn is a great guy, hard working and honest to a fault. Calling him a clown is disrespectful and not warranted.
I personally know all of these people and they will exceed expectations set for them. ,

      1. Low intellect or drunk? You either possess one or both of these problems.
        Thanks for playing!

        1. If the best come back you have is to insult someone instead of engaging in an open discussion, that doesn’t say much for you. Thank you for playing, now we all now what an internet troll you are.

          1. Interesting. You create a profile just to stand up and be counted. Crawl back into your cave, troll. You’re the only one who cares about an 8 month old post.
Brown has already been demoted. Called it again!

    2. I’m kind of curious what makes you such an expert on the APD Ashley. You always seem to have a comment about everything APD related, yet seem slightly uninformed at the same time.

      1. Would so many be concerned about my posts and identity if I were only “slightly” uninformed? The answer is no.
I’ll pose the same question to you. What makes you such an expert?
